La Liga, in partnership with Electronic Arts, has announced the second edition of the Virtual La Liga ESPORTS Santander tournament. The competition has already commenced and will run through to May 2019. This year’s winner will walk away with an increased prize of €10,500, while the runner-up will receive €5250 and the semi-finalists will get €2625. Building on last season, where more than 2 million spectators were reached, the second edition of the tournament will feature a more competitive format and longer season. The regular season will consist of nine rounds of open competition, with each round lasting two weeks, beginning with online qualification and leading to a live showdown for the finalists of each round. Points will be awarded to the best performing competitors, and after the nine rounds are completed the 16 highest ranked competitors will be invited to the playoffs on May 11, 2019.
