Sergej W. has been con­victed of plant­ing the bomb that dam­aged Borus­sia Dort­mund’s team bus in 2017, and sen­tenced to 14 years in prison. Pros­e­cu­tors wanted life im­pris­on­ment for 28 counts of at­tempted mur­der, fol­low­ing three bombs planted road­side ex­ploded as the team bus made its way to the West­falen­sta­dion be­fore a Cham­pi­ons League quar­ter-fi­nal match. The trial lasted 11 months and in ad­di­tion to the 14 years in prison, the 29-year-old will also have to pay Marc Bar­tra €15,000 for the in­juries he sus­tained. Sergej said that he did not in­tend to in­jure any­one and had hoped to make close to £3 mil­lion on the stock mar­ket if Dort­mund’s share prices fell.
