HONG KONG PHOOEY
Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian threatened to take legal action against Anthony Modeste and Cologne after the German club revealed they re-signed the striker. The 30-year-old left for Tianjin in July 2017 for a reported fee of €35 million, signing a contract until the end of 2020. However, Modeste got into a contract dispute with Tianjin in the summer and subsequently terminated his contract, claiming the club owed him money. Tianjin appealed to FIFA and then issued a statement reminding both parties that Modeste is still registered with them and revealed they are prepared to take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport if needed. During the appeal process to FIFA, Modeste signed for Cologne, who announced his arrival offering him a contract until 2023. FIFA ruled that Tianjin has to pay Modeste his outstanding salaries while also concluding that the player had no good reason to terminate his contract.
