It’s been a tough old season for Monaco so far. Ligue 1 champions in 2017 and runners up last year, the principality club’s exciting young team has been shorn of stars like Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Fabinho, Benjamin Mendy and Tiemoue Bakayoko in the last 18 months. They’re hovering around the French top flight’s relegation zone at the winter break, despite bringing in former player Thierry Henry as their new boss. His appointment did little to inspire an upturn in European form, as Monaco won just a single point in the Champions League group stages.

Unfortunately for AEK Athens fans, that was one more than their side managed.

The Greek side lost all six of their fixtures against Bayern Munich, Ajax and Benfica, failing to score in five of those. There was also serious disappointment for Inter Milan supporters, as they watched their team toil at home to PSV Eindhoven in their final fixture. A victory over the Dutch side would’ve seen them through, but a 1-1 draw sent them crashing out early and into the Europa League.
