LITF in search of hosts
Next month, from Oct. 18 to 21, the Region of Queens will be hosting the Liverpool International Theatre Festival (LITF), Nova Scotia’s only international theatre festival.
And Jean Robinson-dexter, chairwoman of the 2018 festival says, “If you’ve ever wanted to experience other cultures, but haven’t had the time or the money, we can help.”
She explains LITF is looking for people in the Liverpool area who can host members of the 11 theatre troupes coming to Nova Scotia from around the world in October. Hosts are needed to offer a bed and a room as well as breakfast for members of groups from Argentina, Bangladesh, China, the Central African Republic, Egypt, Iran, Mexico, Nepal, Peru and Wales.
The hosts decide the maximum number of people they can accommodate, while LITF provides transportation for troupe members to and from the various venues during the festival.
“Hosting a troupe member is a great way not only to help the festival and, in turn, the community, but to also have an opportunity to meet new people and to learn about new cultures,” says Robinson-dexter. “The theatre festival has a large impact on the community and we have always had positive feedback from people who have hosted in the past. It’s a great experience, they tell us.”
Basically, she says, they need hosts for up to five days at the most, from Wednesday, Oct. 17, to Monday, Oct. 22, depending upon travel schedules.
“We aren’t look for anything extravagant,” she explains. “As a host, all we need you to do is provide your guests with a place to sleep and then breakfast in the morning. That’s it. Everything else is taken care of by the festival.”
Anyone interested in hosting some of the performers and other theatre troupe members should email festival organizers at marketing@litf.ca and give your contact information to the hosting committee.
The only international theatre festival of its kind in Atlantic Canada, LITF runs at the historic Astor Theatre in Liverpool. Since the first festival in 1992, LITF has brought the world to Nova Scotia every two years.
