143 Construction Engineering Flight (143 CEF) has been operating in Lunenburg County for more than 20 years and on Saturday, Sept. 29, they opened their doors to the community for an open house held at 391 Harold Whynot Rd. in Pine Grove. 143 CEF is an Air Reserve unit with the Canadian Armed Forces training and employing members in Construction trades, states the 143 CEF Facebook page.

The day gave the public an opportunity to learn more about the unit and the Royal Canadian Air Force Reserve and the tremendous employment opportunities it holds for those willing to take a closer look. The reserves give people a chance to get worldclass training while also earning an income. Job opportunities in the Royal Canadian Air Force Reserve can range from various trades and positions such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, heating and air conditioning, just to name a few.

Many members of the community that came out to the open house were amazed at the possibilities that the Royal Canadian Air Force Reserve has to offer. Once an applicant passes the initial testing, the new recruit receives their BMQ (basic military qualification) training ,which immerses them in the world of the Canadian Military. Once this is completed, and the trade of choice is established, the new member’s trade training commences. Once the training is completed, the reservist will be assigned to a unit and may be able to work right at home. The unique aspect of the Royal Canadian Air Force Reserve is that once accepted, the new recruit begins to get paid and that continues through all phases of their training.

Members of 143 CEF were on hand to answer a variety of questions at the open house and to explain the process. A Royal Canadian Air Force Reserve recruiter were also in attendance and met with several people who showed an interest in what the next step would be for them. Recruitment members also had on display equipment that is used in their day-to-day work, along with setups of construction mockups.

Speaking with many of those in attendance, the sentiment was that a career in the Royal Canadian Air Force Reserve can definitely be a great option for those willing to take a chance. For more information, contact a 143 CEF member at 902-527-2154 ext. 3005.
