Santa to make stop at Dayspring Fire Department
Santa Claus will soon be making a visit to Dayspring in a fire truck, delighting children of all ages.
For more than 40 years, children whose families reside in communities served by the Dayspring and District Fire Department have attended fun-filled Christmas parties at the fire hall. This year’s free event will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Parents who took part in the festivities as children are now taking their kids to the party. Grandparents even join in on the fun. Regardless of age, the party is three hours of pure enjoyment.
Each year, the Auxiliary Committee introduces a new attraction to keep things fresh for the children who attend every year. This year, in addition to a colouring contest, candy jar guessing game and treats from Santa, there will be a magic show featuring The Amazing Mr. J.
Pauline Crouse has been a member of the fire department’s Auxiliary Committee for more than 48 years and has volunteered as colouring contest coordinator since the first children’s party.
“I just love watching the children colour, especially the little ones. They scribble all over the page then hand their work to me. Others finish half the drawing then ask Mom or Dad to help. The older kids are very good at colouring and are proud of their creations,” said Crouse, of Upper Lahave.
“Being with the boys and girls around the colouring table is so much fun and I hope I can continue for years to come. The children’s party helps to make my Christmas,” she said.
Firefighters will be at the Christmas party to show off the fire trucks, pumps and other equipment. Kids can try on firefighters’ bunker gear and helmets and even sit on the driver’s seat of a fire truck.
Hot dogs, ice cream, juice, fruit, cheese and crackers will be provided for the children, while adults will be offered coffee or tea.
The wheelchair-accessible Dayspring fire hall is located at 13177 Highway 3, Upper Lahave.
