In­ter­net up­grade, staff mile­stones for Re­gion of Queens

Queens Place Emera Cen­tre will soon be up­grad­ing to faster, more re­li­able in­ter­net ser­vice.

A mo­tion was ap­proved dur­ing the Re­gion of Queens Mu­nic­i­pal­ity’s Coun­cil meet­ing on Dec. 11 to pro­ceed with Bell Aliant’s pro­posal of $65,670.77 plus HST, which will pro­vide 22 ac­cess points through­out the build­ing, se­cu­rity ap­pli­ances and pro­fes­sional ser­vice en­gage­ments.

The cost of these up­grades will be funded through ex­ist­ing bud­gets and re­serves for Queens Place Emera Cen­tre, specif­i­cally the fundrais­ing ac­count and equip­ment re­serve ac­count.

“Pro­vi­sion of re­li­able, high speed in­ter­net is an es­sen­tial part of do­ing busi­ness. Many or­ga­ni­za­tions who host events at Queens Place Emera Cen­tre re­quire a strong, re­li­able sig­nal through­out the fa­cil­ity,” says David Da­gley, Re­gion of Queens Mu­nic­i­pal­ity’s Mayor.

“We are pleased that up­grades will be in place prior to the 2019 World Ju­nior Curl­ing Cham­pi­onship -- which takes place in Fe­bru­ary of 2019 — and for fu­ture events to be held at Queens Place Emera Cen­tre.”

Re­gion of Queens Mu­nic­i­pal­ity cel­e­brates staff mile­stones Twenty-one Re­gion of Queens Mu­nic­i­pal­ity’s em­ploy­ees were cel­e­brated for their mile­stone achieve­ments at the Re­gion of Queens Reg­u­lar Coun­cil meet­ing on Dec. 11.

Steve Burns, Alex Comeau, Paul Dauphi­nee, Amy Hatt, David Kel­ley, Richard Lane and Lloyd Wolfe were rec­og­nized for have worked for the Re­gion of Queens for five years.

John Berry, Bill Leighton, Frank Oickle, Meaghan Roberts, Neil Roy, Janie Ryan, Colin VanBuskirk and Rod­ney Wea­gle were rec­og­nized for have worked for the Re­gion of Queens Mu­nic­i­pal- ity for 10 years.

Shel­ley Con­nolly, Wayne Han­ley, Dwayne Hur­sh­man and Au­drey Wam­boldt were rec­og­nized for have worked for the Re­gion of Queens Mu­nic­i­pal­ity for 15 years.

Tim Thor­bourne was hon­oured for reach­ing the 25-year mark, and Sher­man Roberts marked 40 years of em­ploy­ment with the Re­gion of Queens Mu­nic­i­pal­ity.

David Da­gley, Mayor of the Re­gion of Queens Mu­nic­i­pal­ity, says the staff that were rec­og­nized have “a strong com­mit­ment to ex­cel­lence in pub­lic ser­vice.”

“Coun­cil is proud to rec­og­nize and cel­e­brate the years of ser­vice and com­mit­ment pro­vided by the skilled staff work­ing in the di­verse and var­ied op­er­a­tions in the Mu­nic­i­pal­ity,” says Da­gley. “All em­ploy­ees are pos­i­tive am­bas­sadors of Coun­cil and the Re­gion of Queens, and they pro­vide a high level of ser­vice.”

The op­er­a­tions and ser­vices pro­vided by the Re­gion of Queens in­clude de­part­ments of Plan­ning and the ad­min­is­tra­tion of­fice, Engi­neer­ing and Pub­lic Works, parks and play­grounds, Queens Place Emera Cen­tre, the Mu­nic­i­pal land­fill and re­cy­cling fa­cil­ity, as well as Hillsview Acres Home for Spe­cial Care.
