Internet upgrade, staff milestones for Region of Queens
Queens Place Emera Centre will soon be upgrading to faster, more reliable internet service.
A motion was approved during the Region of Queens Municipality’s Council meeting on Dec. 11 to proceed with Bell Aliant’s proposal of $65,670.77 plus HST, which will provide 22 access points throughout the building, security appliances and professional service engagements.
The cost of these upgrades will be funded through existing budgets and reserves for Queens Place Emera Centre, specifically the fundraising account and equipment reserve account.
“Provision of reliable, high speed internet is an essential part of doing business. Many organizations who host events at Queens Place Emera Centre require a strong, reliable signal throughout the facility,” says David Dagley, Region of Queens Municipality’s Mayor.
“We are pleased that upgrades will be in place prior to the 2019 World Junior Curling Championship -- which takes place in February of 2019 — and for future events to be held at Queens Place Emera Centre.”
Region of Queens Municipality celebrates staff milestones Twenty-one Region of Queens Municipality’s employees were celebrated for their milestone achievements at the Region of Queens Regular Council meeting on Dec. 11.
Steve Burns, Alex Comeau, Paul Dauphinee, Amy Hatt, David Kelley, Richard Lane and Lloyd Wolfe were recognized for have worked for the Region of Queens for five years.
John Berry, Bill Leighton, Frank Oickle, Meaghan Roberts, Neil Roy, Janie Ryan, Colin VanBuskirk and Rodney Weagle were recognized for have worked for the Region of Queens Municipal- ity for 10 years.
Shelley Connolly, Wayne Hanley, Dwayne Hurshman and Audrey Wamboldt were recognized for have worked for the Region of Queens Municipality for 15 years.
Tim Thorbourne was honoured for reaching the 25-year mark, and Sherman Roberts marked 40 years of employment with the Region of Queens Municipality.
David Dagley, Mayor of the Region of Queens Municipality, says the staff that were recognized have “a strong commitment to excellence in public service.”
“Council is proud to recognize and celebrate the years of service and commitment provided by the skilled staff working in the diverse and varied operations in the Municipality,” says Dagley. “All employees are positive ambassadors of Council and the Region of Queens, and they provide a high level of service.”
The operations and services provided by the Region of Queens include departments of Planning and the administration office, Engineering and Public Works, parks and playgrounds, Queens Place Emera Centre, the Municipal landfill and recycling facility, as well as Hillsview Acres Home for Special Care.
