The benefits of video marketing

Since 65 per cent of people are visual learners, according to the Social Science Research Network, one of the best ways for companies to connect with consumers is through visual content.

Our brains are programmed to retain more information when it’s paired with a visual aid — 60,000 times faster to be exact.

While photos will always be an effective tool for engaging your audience, videos are projected to drive nearly 80 per cent of all internet traffic by 2019.

This is partially a corporate response to consumer attention spans getting shorter but more to do with the fact that after watching a video, 64 per cent of consumers are more likely to buy a product.

I had the chance to sit down with Jennifer Naugler of Simple Local Life to discuss her success in using videos to grow her business.

Simple Local Life started out as a blog promoting life and business on the South Shore that quickly turned into a booming media company after Jennifer’s successful Facebook Live series.

“My first Facebook Live video was just of me cooking in my kitchen and more than

1,000 people tuned in to watch,” says Jennifer.

“I quickly realized the potential videos had for my business and now it’s my main product.”

A lot of my clients are hesitant to start using video content because they don’t know what to say or they feel like they don’t have the right tools.

Some of Simple Local Life’s videos have more than 6,000 views and the only tools Jennifer uses to make them are her phone, a mic, and a tripod. Simple, right?

As for knowing what to say in a video, it’s all about telling your brand’s story and giving people an opportunity to make a meaningful connection to your business.

Jennifer suggests, “Giving your audience a behind-thescenes look at your business by showcasing a part of the process for how your products are made, a video of a typical day in the life of your business, or even starting your own series to help create consistent viewership.”

If live videos aren’t your jam yet, there are tons of resources for creating, editing and animating videos right on your phone.

Most smartphones have a built-in video editor but apps like Facebook Creator and Adobe Spark offer free templates and user-friendly tools to make it even easier for you to look like a video-making pro.

Google Photos and iphone Memories can also create videos for you automatically from your albums.
