Books in my library I can’t wait to learn more from

- MILLICENT MCKAY

We’ve talked productivity, time management and oh, so much more – but what about the literature on my list, so I have an idea about what I’m telling all of you about?

Well, learning has always been something I’ve been interested in: history, science, dietary habits (not that I necessarily follow them) true crime, and societal and cultural topics are all in my podcast library. But I don’t just listen to learn, I spend some moola on books to line my shelves as reference books if I ever need… well, a reference.

It’s like my exciting version of textbooks (man I’m a geek – not much has changed).

Now, join me by grabbing your favourite highlighter and let’s dig in:

“Lagom – The Swedish Art of Balanced Living” by Linnea Dunne: Remember my column on Hygge, a Danish lifestyle trend? Well if you’re looking for another Scandinavian lifestyle guide try Lagom. All about living life in moderation, this book is supposed to help you find the balance you never knew you needed.

“A Zero Waste Life in Thirty Days” by Anita Vandyke: Recently, I’ve become more conscious of how much waste (not bodily) I make – whether it’s by purchasing an item with an obscene amount of packaging or not properly recycling. But this book is something I can’t wait to sink my teeth into. Claiming to help you reduce your waste by 80 per cent, this book is supposed to be “the ultimate guide to radically reducing your waste without losing your lifestyle.”

“The Art of Noticing – 131 Ways to Spark Creativity, Find Inspiration and Discover Joy in the Everyday” by Rob Walker: Want to get more out of the world around you? Well, according to the reviews, this is the book to help accomplish that. Apparently, it’s “a delightful guide to being alive.”

“Yoga for a Better Sleep” by Mark Stephens: As someone who is currently in desperate need of a better night’s sleep, and as someone who always wants to step up her yoga game, this is another book I’m really looking forward to leafing through.

“The Headspace Guide to

Meditation and Mindfulness” by Andy Puddicombe: Meditation has never been something I’ve been able to commit to. Heck, I even have the headspace app on my phone (though I never use it). I’m hoping this guide will give the direction I need in order to take the plunge.

“#Chill Turn off Your Job and Turn on Your Life” by

Bryan E. Robinson (PHD): I can never turn off my work brain, consciously or subconsciously. I’m hoping this book – that says it will help me stop cheating on my life – with help. This “month-by-month manifesto to tackling overworking” has a year’s worth of resources.

Now there are a few more on the list, but they’re ones I’ve already started and have mentioned in other columns. I know, I’ve got an awful long list a head of me. But in sharing it with you, I hope you decide to come on this reading journey, buy a copy, download the audio book and buckle up.
