South Shore Stamp Club celebrating 25th anniversary
The South Shore Stamp Club, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2019, club formed when 12 stamp collectors gathered on Nov. 22, 1994, to discuss forming a club. The club was organized to provide stamp collectors on the South Shore of Nova Scotia an opportunity to meet and discuss all matters of philately, to study and exchange stamps, and to provide a monthly program of interest to collectors. Meetings feature a stamp auction giving members an opportunity to sell and exchange all sorts of stamps and philatelic materiel. The club continues to meet at the Municipality of Lunenburg Recreation Center in Dayspring. Three of the original members continue to be active with the club.
The new club held its first Stamp Fair and Exhibition in May of 1995. The annual fair provides club members and other collectors an opportunity to exhibit stamps and postal history. The Dr. Robert Wentzell memorial plaque, honouring a charter member, was established in 1999 to recognize the most popular exhibit at the annual stamp fair.
The 25th anniversary fair, Stampex19, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Michelin Social Club, 221 Logan Road, Bridgewater. The one-day fair will highlight a new postmark for Bridgewater, a stamp honouring a charter member and birthday cake. In addition to an exhibit of stamps and postal history, there will be stamp dealers present and a stamp auction.
The club has been instrumental in having a number of postmarks, or cancels, developed for use in Bridgewater and Lunenburg County. The first was in 1996 when a special cancel was made in recognition of Lunenburg County as the Forestry Capital of Canada that year. There
breakfast and a chance to make your morning meal a bit more nutritious and delicious compared to the more common routines you might already have in place. My parents were here at the time I first made these breakfast boats bickering amongst themselves as to how they could help ensure that they get a chance to meet their new grandson, Max in the near future without making things difficult. Dad had his tough love stance, as always, and Mom wanted a more subtle and sneaky approach, as was her style of solving problems. Nothing brings family members together though like a hearty was a cancel made for six different Post Offices. In 1999, the club successfully requested a special cancel from Canada Post to mark Bridgewater’s Centennial. To mark hosting its first regional stamp show in 2017, the club was able to have Canada Post issue a new cancellation for Bridgewater featuring Pijnuiskaq Park. The latest cancel will be unveiled at Stampex19.
For a number of years the club had a youth stamp club for young collectors. The club allowed youth with an interest in stamps to meet and learn about the hobby and learn from older members. The club has
breakfast and I invited them to partake in testing out my latest and most gorgeous breakfast creation as they rowed. It worked, and soon the focus was more on problem solving together than undertaken youth programs at the Desbrisay Museum in Bridgewater. The Stamp Club has organized several displays of member’s collections at the Museum. For many years the club participated in the Adopt a Highway program, each spring cleaning Highway 332 through Dayspring.
Early on, the club began publishing a newsletter of its activities and articles of interest to its members. The publication of the newsletter continues.

with each side trying to dominate the other, which is just how I like it. Just as in bell pepper boats is now how I love my bacon and eggs.
