-

Grants totalling $5,000 were recently awarded by the Lunenburg Foundation for the Arts (LFA) to four organizations to support local projects.

The Lunenburg Theatre Collective was given $1,650. This was to help the new local theatrical company with offsetting production costs for the play Lunenburg , written by Norm Foster, at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic Ice House Theatre.

Hear Here Productions received

$1,350 for the completion of two short art films: Rock, Tree, Water, and Green Moss Meadow, both shot in Mahone Bay, to complete a trilogy of films called Woodlight.

South Shore Summer Theatre was the recipient of $1,100 to engage young people in the creative process of developing, rehearsing and presenting a fullscale musical, Jesus Christ Superstar, for staging in Lunenburg and Liverpool.

Lunenburg Docfest was given $900 to support the free outdoor waterfront screening series Sept. 23 to 25 on Zwicker’s Wharf.

In addition, a $500 bursary was awarded to Parkview Education Centre graduate Morgan Landry who is going to the Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson) to study image arts and film.

Applications for grants are reviewed by an independent grant jury and the recommendations made are subsequently approved by the LFA board.

The LFA is a registered charity dedicated to ensuring a vibrant future for the arts in Lunenburg County. For emerging artists from a wide range of disciplines, the LFA provides grants and bursaries, with 100 per cent of the funds raised.

Projects that advance collaboration, equity and diversity within a community are supported because the LFA can demonstrate that even a small grant can make a mighty difference. Donations can be made through the website www. lunenburgartsfoundation.ca
