Acadia University Singers to perform in Lunenburg
Contemporary choral music group presenting O Magnum Mysterium
On Friday, Dec. 1, the Acadia University Singers will perform O Magnum Mysterium, an uplifting concert of inspiring contemporary choral music, at St. John’s Anglican Church in Lunenburg.
O Magnum Mysterium celebrates the achievement, strength, perseverance and vision of women throughout time.
Featuring works by composers including Marie-claire Saindon, Elaine Hagenberg, B.E. Boykin, Alyssia Lee,
Kyle Pederson and more, this program features choral narratives of notable historical women as well as words of inspiration celebrating the limitless potential that lies within us all.
The Acadia University Singers are an upper-voice chamber choir, comprised of sopranos and altos who
are both students and recent graduates of the Acadia School of Music. Their director, Michelle Keddy Boyd (originally from Lunenburg County), is also an Acadia graduate.
This concert begins at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church, 64 Townsend Street, Lunenburg. Admission is by freewill donation at the door.
Donations received at this concert will support the Singing IN Flanders Fields project: from April 24 to May 3, 2024, members of the Acadia University Singers are going on a concert tour to the World War One battlefields of France and Belgium, ending in Ypres, Belgium, to present a Remembrance-themed concert in the place where
Lt. Col. John Mccrae wrote his famous poem, In Flanders Fields. This tour is long awaited, as it was originally scheduled to happen in the spring of 2020 to coincide with the poem’s 105th anniversary.
Four years later, the students are hard at work to bring this project to fruition.
