End-of-life Info Expo kicks off Hospice Palliative Care Week

- CONTRIBUTED

An upcoming End-of-life Info Expo is a welcoming space with approximately 28 exhibitors all associated with end-of-life care. There will also be eight different talks on a wide range of topics including:

■ What is Palliative Care?

■ Supporting Others in Grief

■ Supported Decision Making and Estate Planning

■ Medical Assistance in Dying

■ Cancer Care Navigator

v Willow’s Bend Collective (willow caskets)

■ Emergency Health Services – Special Patient and Palliative Program

■ Alzheimers and end-of-life Pre-registration is required for the talks. A few of the exhibitors include palliative care services – NS Health, Dying with Dignity, Green Burial, Elderdog, Advance Care Planning, plus many more.

This event is hosted by the South Shore Hospice Palliative Care Society and planned by the education committee. It is the second one to be held in this area. The first event was held a year ago and was the first to be held in Nova Scotia. The expo is for everyone, no matter their age or health status. Thinking about and planning for end-oflife is something that everyone should do. No one really wants to think about or talk about end-of-life, but it is much better to do it before a crisis situation.

It is much better for one’s family or loved ones, too, and gives all concerned peace of mind.

The expo will be held on Saturday, May 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bridgewater Baptist Church, 564 Glen Allan Dr. There is no entrance fee. Registration for talks can be made at www.southshorehospice.ca or by calling 902-527-0000.
