Pair help Team Canada past USA
Kyle’s Baylee Gillanders and Wiseton’s Shelby Nisbet both helped Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 team to a 2-1 series win over the United States last week in Calgary.
Gillanders, a former Swift Current Diamond Energy AAA Midget Wildcat, will suit up at the Warner Hockey School this season after three standout seasons with the Wildcats.
Last season Gillanders finished third in points among SFMAAAHL defense man with 19 in only 22 games and was named the Top Defenseman at the Mac’s World Invitational tournament while helping the Wildcats to their second consecutive tournament title.
Nisbet finished third in league scoring last season with 30 points in 28 games and was named a First Team All-Star at the Mac’s as well.
Canada opened the series with a 4-3 loss but rebounded for 4-2 and 3-1 wins.
The summer team is also a stepping stone to the roster for the U-18 National Team for the 2010 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship from March 27- April 3 to be held in the United States.
