City Fire Department turning 100 in 2010
When calendars turn to 2010 the Swift Current Fire Department will begin their centennial year. In a report presented to Swift Current City Council on Monday, Fire Chief Bob Rindahl highlighted that the upcoming year will mark the 100 year anniversary of the formation of the department.
He noted that a volunteer fire brigade was formally organized in April 1910, making the Fire Department older that the City of Swift Current.
In April of this coming year the Department intends to celebrate the anniversary with an open house and gala banquet/ball. This event will be organized by a committee comprised of a number of enthusiastic retired and current Fire Department members.
The Department intends to purchase a bronze plaque to commemorate the event.
Rindahl also pointed out that a history book showcasing the accomplishments of the Swift Current Fire Department has been written and can be purchased for $20 at the FireHall, CityHall or Swift Current Museum.
