City Fire Depart­ment turn­ing 100 in 2010

When cal­en­dars turn to 2010 the Swift Cur­rent Fire Depart­ment will be­gin their cen­ten­nial year. In a re­port pre­sented to Swift Cur­rent City Coun­cil on Mon­day, Fire Chief Bob Rin­dahl high­lighted that the up­com­ing year will mark the 100 year an­niver­sary of the for­ma­tion of the depart­ment.

He noted that a vol­un­teer fire bri­gade was for­mally organized in April 1910, mak­ing the Fire Depart­ment older that the City of Swift Cur­rent.

In April of this com­ing year the Depart­ment in­tends to cel­e­brate the an­niver­sary with an open house and gala ban­quet/ball. This event will be organized by a com­mit­tee com­prised of a num­ber of en­thu­si­as­tic re­tired and cur­rent Fire Depart­ment mem­bers.

The Depart­ment in­tends to pur­chase a bronze plaque to com­mem­o­rate the event.

Rin­dahl also pointed out that a his­tory book show­cas­ing the ac­com­plish­ments of the Swift Cur­rent Fire Depart­ment has been writ­ten and can be pur­chased for $20 at the Fire­Hall, Ci­tyHall or Swift Cur­rent Mu­seum.
