- Robert W. Marken of Swift Cur­rent, SK passed away at the Swift Cur­rent Care Cen­tre on Novem­ber 23, 2009 at the age of 77 years. A Fu­neral Ser­vice was held in the Chapel of War­ren's Fu­neral Home on Thurs­day, Novem­ber 26, 2009 with Pas­tor Greg Kiel of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church of­fi­ci­at­ing. The in­ter­ment took place at the Mem­ory Gar­dens Ceme­tery. Bob was born on the fam­ily farm (18-17-17-W. 3rd Mer) on May 14, 1932. He at­tended the Ver­g­land school and Sco­tia School for a time, then com­pleted his high school ed­u­ca­tion in Swift Cur­rent. In 1950 he moved to Regina and at­tended Busi­ness Col­lege and then worked in the credit depart­ment of Sears. In 1957 he re­turned to Swift Cur­rent and con­tin­ued to farm with his brother Tom, liv­ing with his mother un­til her health failed and she moved into the Swift Cur­rent Care Cen­tre. In 1980, he and his brother Tom re­ceived the Fam­ily Farm Her­itage Award for con­tin­u­ous op­er­a­tion of the fam­ily farm since 1910. Bob was a gifted mu­si­cian and en­joyed play­ing pi­ano, ac­cor­dian and or­gan at many func­tions over the years and was a mem­ber of the West­wind Sin­gles Square Dance Club. He spent sev­eral win­ters at New West­min­is­ter BC, where he vis­ited many fam­ily mem­bers and friends. Bob had been a res­i­dent pa­tient at the Swift Cur­rent Care Cen­tre since 2004. Robert was pre­de­ceased by his fa­ther Theodore; mother Marie (nee: Hunt­ley) and his brother Tom. He is sur­vived by niece Dawn (Greg) Ol­son and their chil­dren Shawna and Kayla, Kin­der­sely, SK; and many cousins. Bob had a mul­ti­tude of friends and fam­ily that the loved to visit with. His kind­ness and pos­i­tive na­ture will be missed by all who knew him. Bob was very proud of his nieces and was very gen­er­ous to them. He was very pleased to think that he had given Shawna her first car --his 1984 Grande Mar­quis. Bob gave his pi­ano to Kayla and was very proud to have some­one fol­low in his mu­si­cal foot­steps. Memo­rial do­na­tions to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Memo­rial Fund or to the Swift Cur­rent Care Cen­tre Aux­il­liary, would be ap­pre­ci­ated by the fam­ily.
