RCMP present award to help­ful cit­i­zen

The Swift Cur­rent City RCMP De­tach­ment has saluted a city man for his ef­forts in help­ing get a drunk driver off the road.

A cit­i­zen’s award was re­cently pre­sented to Daniel Hjer­men­rude by Staff Sergeant, Al­lan MacDonell of the Swift Cur­rent City RCMP De­tach­ment. Hjer­men­rude went above and be­yond the ex­pec­ta­tions of an av­er­age cit­i­zen in help­ing po­lice ap­pre­hend a drunk driver.

Ac­cord­ing to the RCMP, on the evening of Sept. 11, Con­sta­ble Ryan Fraser re­sponded to a 911 call of an in­tox­i­cated man who had been in­volved in a mo­tor ve­hi­cle col­li­sion and was Staff Sergeant Al­lan MacDonell from the Swift Cur­rent City RCMP De­tatch­ment presents Daniel Hjer­men­rude his cer­tifi­cate. up­set punch­ing his ve­hi­cle. When Const. Fraser ar­rived on scene in the north­east part of the city, he was met by Hjer­men­rude who had taken the keys away from the im­paired driver. Hjer­men­rude handed over the in­tox­i­cated man and his keys to Const. Fraser who ar­rested the man for Im­paired Driv­ing. The RCMP note this is an ex­am­ple of how a cit­i­zen can help the po­lice and keep the com­mu­nity safe.
