Swift Current hosts Pro-am dart shoot
Atotal of 18 competitors took aim at top spot during Swift Current’s first pro-am dart shoot earlier this month.
The June 4 event, hosted at Lucky Charlie’s Pub, boasted Saskatchewan’s top six ranked men’s dart players plus two of the top women’s competitors. The event will lead to the formation of a dart league at Lucky Charlie’s this fall.
The morning event started with open singles double knockout matchplay. The final saw sixth ranked Curtis Neufeld from Swift Current up against fifth ranked Brian Humphreys from Flin Flon. Enroute to the final Neufeld racked up a perfect record taking out the number two and three seeded players in the province as well as SDA team member Ken Friesen from Saskatoon.
Brian Humphreys dropped his first set to drop down to the B side only to claw his way back up to the final against Neufeld.
In the end Humphreys proved to strong for Neufeld taking both sets 41 in each set to claim the singles title.
In the afternoon, Pro-am shoot novice players were teamed up with Sask Darts high performance players. The final results saw top ranked Cliff Culbert from Hodgeville, teamed with novice player Dennis McDermott from Prince Albert, winning the Pro-am title with a 12-4 record one point ahead of fourth ranked John Brann (winner of the 2011 Saskatchewan mens title) teamed with Mark Langen from Alberta. Adam Huxted of Swift Current and his partner finished fourth to post the highest placing among local novice darters.
