Generosity shown through Back To School Program support
Editor: One of the exciting thing about returning back to school after a long summer holiday is the anticipation for all things new; new classroom, new teacher, new subjects, new clothing, new backpack, binders, and lunch box. Most parents are familiar with the expenses of “all things new”, trying to balance school supply list requirements with a child’s request for band name binders and a fancy pencil case. The cost of sending a child back to school can be a challenge for many families within our community.
Each summer Staples Office Depot teams up with The Salvation Army for the annual Back to School Program. The Back to School Program works through donations from community members. Donations received at Staples Office Depot tills are then forwarded to The Salvation Army as new school supplies. These new supplies are packed into backpack and distributed to those who need an extra hand collecting the basic for the school year to come.
This year’s Back to School Program can be called a great success for many reasons, and I would like to take a brief moment to thank those who made it that way. I would first like to thank Staples Office Depot for their passion and dedication to this program. It is through their fundraising that we can offer this program. Thankyou also to each and everyone who made donations at the tills while purchasing their own school supplies at Staple Office Depot. We were able to create 45 packs for families in Swift Current and surrounding areas.
Additionally I would like to extend my appreciation further. Thank-you Victory Family Church and Trailview Alliance Church for your seemingly instantaneous response to The Salvation Army’s need for more backpack to put the school supplies in. You gave generously and demonstrated how effectively the Body of Christ can work together, blessing a community. Additionally I want to thank everyone who came out to help pack the backpacks on August 23.
The Back to School Program is depended entirely on the support of our community and its members. This community has given a few more students something extra to be excited about. Thank-you!
