Wild­cats split open­ing SFMAAAHL week­end

The Swift Cur­rent Di­a­mond En­ergy Wild­cats opened the Saskatchew­an Fe­male Midget AAA Hockey League reg­u­lar sea­son with a week­end split against the vis­it­ing Prince Al­bert Bears.

The Wild­cats got 27 saves from Mo­riah An­drews on Satur­day as they up­ended the Bears with a 2-0 win to open the reg­u­lar sea­son. Prince Al­bert out­shot Swift Cur­rent 27-13 but were un­able to beat An­drews in her reg­u­lar sea­son de­but for the Wild­cats.

De­laine Feil and Brooke McAdam both scored in the penalty filled af­fair that saw both teams fin­ish score­less on the power play. Sun­day, a shaky sec­ond pe­riod sunk the Wild­cats as they al­lowed two unan­swered goals in the frame on their way to a 3-1 loss. The two teams were tied 1-1 af­ter one pe­riod on a Brooke Hob­son goal for Prince Al­bert and the ty­ing goal from Alexan­dra Lind, with an as­sist from Keely Chalk, for Swift Cur­rent.

The Bears got goals from Kaitlin Wil­loughby and Lexi Van Camp in a 28-sec­ond span in the mid­dle stanza to take the lead for good.

Brook­lyn Weis­ger­ber made 33 saves on 36 shots in the loss for the Wild­cats.

Head coach Terry Pavely was happy with get­ting two points out of the week­end.
