Wildcats split opening SFMAAAHL weekend
The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats opened the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League regular season with a weekend split against the visiting Prince Albert Bears.
The Wildcats got 27 saves from Moriah Andrews on Saturday as they upended the Bears with a 2-0 win to open the regular season. Prince Albert outshot Swift Current 27-13 but were unable to beat Andrews in her regular season debut for the Wildcats.
Delaine Feil and Brooke McAdam both scored in the penalty filled affair that saw both teams finish scoreless on the power play. Sunday, a shaky second period sunk the Wildcats as they allowed two unanswered goals in the frame on their way to a 3-1 loss. The two teams were tied 1-1 after one period on a Brooke Hobson goal for Prince Albert and the tying goal from Alexandra Lind, with an assist from Keely Chalk, for Swift Current.
The Bears got goals from Kaitlin Willoughby and Lexi Van Camp in a 28-second span in the middle stanza to take the lead for good.
Brooklyn Weisgerber made 33 saves on 36 shots in the loss for the Wildcats.
Head coach Terry Pavely was happy with getting two points out of the weekend.
