Construction tender awarded for Maple Creek’s Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility
The Cypress Health Region and members of the Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility (SIHF) Steering Committee are pleased to announce that the tender for construction services has been formally awarded. Graham Construction and Engineering Inc. have been awarded the $37,253,632 plus GST construction contract and their staff are expected to be on site in the very near future to begin construction activity.
At its regular monthly meeting held in Ponteix on October 17th, members of the Cypress Regional Health Authority were provided with an update on the capital project’s planning status and approved a motion to award the contract to Graham Construction. This discussion and motion followed the approval provided by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health in regards to the tender award recommendation.
“We are overjoyed with this exciting news, and join the residents of Maple Creek and surrounding areas in looking forward to seeing some large-scale activity on the site of the newest health care facility in southwest Saskatchewan,” said Beth Vachon, Chief Executive Officer of the Cypress Health Region.
Brenda Schwan, Cypress Health’s Executive Director of Human Resources and Capital Project Lead, has been directly involved in the planning for the integrated facility.
“Today’s approval of the construction tender award follows an extensive review process referred to as value engineering,” Schwan stated. The construction value of over $37.253 million plus GST will be financed via the Ministry of Health’s capital project funding formula, where 80 per cent of the construction value will be
provided by the Ministry of Health. The remaining 20 per cent of construction, plus the equipment and furnishings for the new integrated facility, will be funded by the local larger ‘community’ as a whole. Overall, the project cost has been determined to be approximately $45.24 million.
“We are pleased to express our appreciation to the residents of the Southwest community for their unwavering support and cooperation throughout the planning process as we move forward into the construction phase,” commented Wilf Parsons, Chairperson of the SIHF Steering Committee.
With the construction tender formally awarded to Graham Construction, the experienced general contractor joins the capital project team of Stantec Architecture (architect and design), ZW Group (Project Manager), Ministry of Health, SIHF Steering Committee, and the Cypress Health Region. The facility is anticipated to be completed in the summer of 2014.
When completed, the integrated facility will include 24 acute beds (of which 10 will be used for multi-purpose needs), 48 long term care beds, emergency medical services (EMS), home care, community health services, midwifery, Telehealth, facility planning for expansion of services, and planning for facility expansion for future needs.
The new facility will be located on the current Maple Creek Hospital site and a parcel of land to the west of the existing Hospital.
