15U Sundogs earn bronze at Provincial­s

The 15U Junior SunDogs boys volleyball team brought home a bronze medal from the 11-team Provincial Championsh­ips in Saskatoon over the weekend.

They finished second in their opening pool with a 31 record. The SunDogs picked up wins over Regina (26-24, 25-19), Yorkton (2518, 25-21), and La Loche (23-25, 25-13, 15-9). Their only round robin loss came to the North West Fury in three sets (22-25, 25-17, 515).

The 15U Junior SunDogs had no problems in the quarter-final as they pounded Prince Albert Gaulio 25-9 and 25-13.

They met the Prince Albert Smashing Bananas in the semifinal and came out on the wrong end of two close games between two evenly matched teams (1925, 22-25).

The SunDogs rematched with the North West Fury in the bronze medal match. They won the first set 25-17 before losing 23-25 to bring the match to a third and deciding set for the bronze medal. Swift Current jumped ahead 8-3 when the teams changed sides before the Fury fought back to trail only 12-11. Swift Current was able to score three of the next four points to close out a 15-12 win.

The 15U Junior SunDogs will be back in action at the 15U Canada West Open in Regina on May 18-20. The 15U Boys Junior SunDogs volleyball team won bronze at Provincial­s over the weekend.
