West Bank Bible Camp holds triple dedication ceremony

-

Atriple dedication was hosted at West Bank Bible Camp on June 23 to celebrate the official opening of a trio of camp upgrades.

The celebration was part of an open house day at the Camp, with the three upgrades all important additions heading into a new summer of camping at the popular camp situated northeast of Swift Current.

An emotional ribbon cutting began the afternoon, with a newly completed Tuck Shop on site dedicated in memory of Haley Martens. Sisters Hannah and Tacey Martens cut the ribbon which was held by parents Hugh and Tanya Martens.

“We’ve always just wanted to thank the ranch. We only have 20 acres, but every activity we do is on Martens Ranch - our canoeing, our zip line, our corn maze, our petting zoo.

There isn’t hardly anything we do that’s not on Hannah and Tacey Martens along with Hugh and Tanya Martens participated in a ribbon cutting with Camp Director Jerry Dennill at West Bank Bible Camp to formally unveil the newly completed Tuck Shop which was dedicated in memory of Haley Martens. Martens Ranch. So it was a good way for us to say we’re with you in this tragedy and we remember Haley with you, so we were happy to do this,” explained Camp Director Jerry Dennill.

The Tuck Shop is an anticipated part of daily camping fun where children line up every day for special treats. The completed facility, with an added varanda, keeps campers in the shade which will make this daily highlight an even more enjoyable spot. “We’re really happy with that pool. But it’s brand new. Every last thing about it is new, right from the bottom up, every pipe, everything is brand new,” Dennill explained. Over the past two years, campers were treated with a chance to swim in the Swift Current Creek while the pool project was completed. The neat part was the kids learned to enjoy swimming in the creek. Everyone had fun.”

The third building unveiling was a ribbon cutting to unveil the duplex cabin 10 and 11 which was built in memory of Lawrence Schulz. The family directed memorial donations to West Bank, and the memorial funds resulted in the new cabin. The family even participated in a two-day work bee last year to start construction of the cabin.

“Every cabin will look like this by the time we’re done, we’re going to have the covered veranda with the rails ... a clean, nice look, with no maintenance,” Dennill noted.

The three additions will be heavily utilized during a busy summer at West Bank. In late June all summer staff was in place and ready to go. Their summer camps were also filling up, and overall they were just about 10 per cent below capacity. They expect to be sharing the camp experience with 600 children during the two summer months.

“We’re looking good and all booked up and ready to go,” Dennill said.
