CCA cowboys working towards Finals appearance­s

Many of the Southwest’s top cowboys and cowgirls remain on track to qualify for the Canadian Cowboys’ Associatio­n Finals as they sit in the top 10 of the most recent Budlight Standings.

Leading the way is Maple Creek’s Ross Kreutzer in Saddle Bronc. He leads all Saddle Bronc riders with $4,434 in earnings this season, well in front of Big Valley’s Jeremy Harden, who has earned $3,132.

Piapot’s Brady Bertram is currently second in the Bareback standings with $2,990 so far this season. He trails the leaders by over $2,000 with plenty of time to close ground. Consul’s Monty Koopman is fifth in Bareback with $2,273 this season.

A pair of Southwest cowboys remain in the top five of the Bull Riding standings this week. Maple Creek’s Jared Parsonage is currently fourth with $2,553 and Shaunavon’s Tanner Allemand is fifth with $2,101. Cadogan’s Lonnie West leads all Bull Riders with $3,630 this season.

Vaughn Warken of Coronach leads the way in a very competitiv­e Tie Down Roping field with $3,630, but five Southwest cowboys are not far off the pace. Mankota’s Shawn Williamson sits fourth with $3,146 so far. Waldeck’s Tuftin McLeod is seventh with $2,641 in earnings. Lucky Lake’s Tyler Getz is right in the mix in ninth spot with $2,322. Matt Switzer, formerly of Swift Current, rounds out the Southwest contingent in 10th spot with $2,236.

Mankota’s Kassidy Williamson is the top local in Ladies Barrel Racing. She sits seventh with $3,441. Stewart Valley’s Janet-Lynn Moen is ninth with $3,265.

Waldeck’s Scott McLeod is eighth in the Team Roping Heeler standings with $2,897. Right behind him in ninth is Tyce McLeod with $1,575. Tuftin McLeod is eighth on the Header side with $2,875. Val Marie’s Wyatt Hayes is the ninth ranked Header with $1,751.

Shamrock’s Kevin Turner is the top Team Roping cowboy out of the Southwest. He ropes with Avonlea’s Tyler Paicu and they both sit second. Turner is the second ranked Header with $4,526 so far this season.

Tuftin McLeod also sits seventh in the Canadian High Point Award with $5,538. Shawn Williamson is 12th with $3,889 and Matt Switzer is 15th with $3,267. Vaughn Warken leads the chase with $6,825.

Three Southwest cowboys are among the top six Junior Steer Riding competitor­s. Hazenmore’s Chanse Cutler leads all cowboys with $739 in the event. Lancer’s Chad Hartman is fifth with $634 and Maple Creek’s Brady Resch is sixth with $556.

Maple Creek’s Lane Link also leads the Novice Bareback standings with $396. Swift Current’s Matt Switzer is currently 15th in the CCA Canadian High Point Award standings. Cabri’s Tyson Garrett is fifth with $148 and Maple Creek’s Wyatt Maines is sixth with $93. Garrett also sits fourth in the Rookie standings as well.

April Williamson is the third member of the Williamson clan to find herself in the Budlight standings. She is second in the Junior Girls Barrel Racing money race with $1,888. Maple Creek’s Mardi Yarshenko is fifth with $617. Wood Mountain’s Nicole Pana leads the way with $2,332.

Leader’s Cody Resch is currently fifth in the Novice Saddle Bronc event with $270. Pelly’s Chase Bourque leads the way with $508.

The next opportunit­y for rodeo fans to catch the cowboys and cowgirls of the CCA in the region will be the Wood Mountain Stampede on July 12-14 and the Boomtown Days Stampede in Shaunavon on July 19-20.
