Chautauqua dazzles with diverse performances
The Chautauqua Theatre Festival hosted in Swift Current over the weekend certainly provided a break from the mundane.
Armed with a diverse selection of performances, the July 11 to 14 festival boasted riotously funny productions, reflective performances, and kid friendly shows.
There were lots of laughs in Fools For Love performed by the duo of Adam Keefe and Christine Lesiak. The fanciful Grim and Fischer, performed by the Portland based Wonderheads, was a riveting mask performance sharing the comedic story of the spunky Mrs. Fischer and her imaginative escapades avoiding an invitation from Death himself. There was also a little, ok a lot of slapstick, during Sound & Fury's Hitchcocked, a comedic mixture borrowing from classic Alfred Hitchcock films and quick thinking improv.
There was also the musically talented Melanie Gall's performance of More Power to your Knitting, Nell! and the emotionally riveting Huff rounding out the diverse range of material aimed at adults.
Chautauqua also aimed to entertain the younger set, as children were enthralled by the two performances of The Princess and the Pea by Wide Open Puppet Theatre. Swift Current band Over the Air were one of the local groups and performers who had an opportunity to showcase their talents during the 2013 Chautauqua Theatre Festival on July 11 to 14.
