Familiar names in the CCA money

Some familiar family names were among the leaders at Canadian Cowboys’ Associatio­n rodeos in Moosomin and Kelliher.

Leading the way at the Moosomin Rodeo was Consul’s Monty Koopman. He scored a 79 on Wingate to win Bareback and take home $420. Tompkins’ Jason Hofer placed third after scoring a 78 on Open Range for $306.

Scott and Tuftin McLeod had an outstandin­g weekend with a second-place finish in Team Roping in 6.6 seconds for $1,049. Kyle and Brady Chappel won the event in 6.0 seconds.

Two Southwest cowboys earned money in Moosomin in Bull Riding. Maple Creek’s Jared Parsonage rode Stubby for 81 points to place third and pocketed $607. Shaunavon’s Tanner Allemand was right behind him in fourth after riding Cinch’s Blueboy for $472. Didsbury’s Carl Green won the event with an 84 on West Tank.

Maple Creek’s Cali Yarshenko placed third in Ladies Barrel Racing in 14.8 seconds for $708 in Moosomin. Rosetown’s Katie Crossman won the event in 14.65 seconds.

Three Southwest cowboys collected money in Tie Down Roping, led by Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer in fourth spot in 9.6 seconds for $362. Swift Current’s Keith Folk followed in fifth spot in 9.7 seconds for $233. Parsonage was back in the money in sixth spot in 10.0 seconds for $129. Davidson’s Scott Sigfusson won Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer came up with top-four Tie Down Roping finishes at CCA stops in Moosomin and Kelliher. Tie Down Roping in 6.5 seconds.

The Southwest was shutout in Saddle Bronc, which was won by Beausejour’s Kirk Thompson with a 79 on Sneaky Feeling. Qu’Appelle’s Kal Klovansky won Steer Wrestling in 6.5 seconds and Carievale’s Hannah McCannell won Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 14.91 seconds to round out the event winners in Moosomin. There were more money winners yet for the Southwest at the Carlton Trail Rodeo in Kelliher the same weekend.

The McLeod’s improved their showing by winning in Kelliher in just 6.1 seconds for $1,174 in Team Roping. Val Marie’s Ryan and Wyatt Hayes placed fourth in 7.1 seconds for $567.

Switzer was back in the money in second spot in Tie Down Roping in 10.1 seconds for $544. Sigfusson won the event in 9.7 seconds.

Maple Creek’s Kerry Maynes placed fourth in Ladies Barrel Racing in 15.29 seconds for $567. Yarshenko was back in the money in sixth spot in 15.34 seconds for $202. Justine Cornelsen won the event in 15.04 seconds.

Mardi Yarshenko won Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 15.73 seconds for a $234 prize. Maple Creek’s Brady Resch placed second in Junior Steer Riding with a 68 for $175. Central Butte’s TJ Loeppky won the event with a 71.

Swift Current’s Casper Hoffman was second in Novice Bareback with a 64 for $108. Maple Creek’s Lane Link was third with a 62 for $72. Bengough’s Patrick Gravelle scored a 67 for $144 to win the event.

Wood Mountain’s Rhett Fitzpatric­k won Saddle Bronc with a 71 on New Idea. Esterhazy’s Michael Tuck won Bareback with a 71 on Hot Sauce. Whitewood’s Ronny Delarue claimed Bull Riding with an 85 on Ace. Steve Cowen topped Steer Wrestling in just 4.2 seconds and Red Deer’s Lindsay Pate won Novice Saddle Bronc with a 61 to round out the event winners in Kelliher.

The CCA calendar continues this weekend with the Boomtown Days Stampede in Shaunavon and the Weyburn Ag Society Rodeo.
