Aneroid celebrates centennial in style

Aneroid, Saskatchew­an celebrated 100 years during the weekend of July 12, 13 and 14. The final tally for attendance has yet to be determined but as we write this over 700 names are on the list. Visitors from the east coast to the west coast and as far south as Texas showed their support.

The centennial parade started at noon with a fly over from Flying Acres plane piloted by Jason Gross. Aneroid’s oldest couple, Jack and Kathleen McMillan, rode in a red Mustang convertibl­e This trio of flag bearers, (rear) Veteran Paul Eberman RCAF from Coldstream BC, (middle) Trevor Foss RCAF from Trenton, ON and (front) Veteran Bill Corbin RCN from Victoria, BC carried the colours to lead the Aneroid Centennial Parade on July 13. waving to the crowd. The parade included pipers, floats, horses, miniature horse teams, old and new farming equipment and various cars and trucks, ranging from a Model T to a Lamborghin­i.

The opening ceremonies included MP David Anderson, MLA Yogi Huyghebaer­t, and Allan Oliver, Reeve. The first copy of the latest history book was auctioned off by Bruce Switzer of Switzer Auctions with proceeds going to the community.

The many displays throughout the town were attended and appreciate­d by our guests....a small trade show, paint ball, Stitch and Chatter display of days gone by included clothing and various antique items. The meals were catered by businesses and clubs from Mankota, Ponteix and Hazenmore. Saturday evening ended with a dance featuring the group ‘ Conrad and His Prairie Pals’ from Shaunavon.

Sunday entertaine­d a well attended church service followed by entertaine­rs from the guest list. Slowly over the next few days the trailers left town and we returned to our quiet little place of 40 residents.
