Midget Indians trade wins in SPBL

The Swift Current Midget Indians won three of five games during a busy conclusion to their season in the Saskatchew­an Premier Midget AAA Baseball League.

Wednesday, the host Indians won their second straight game in a 7-6 win over the Moose Jaw Devons. The Indians only managed four hits, but combined them with four walks, seven stolen bases, and six Moose Jaw errors to score enough runs to win.

BJ Moen earned the win, allowing three hits and three runs, only one that was earned, over four innings. He walked three and struck out six to improve to 2-2 this season. Brandon Schultz tossed two hitless innings to preserve the win.

George Hudec tripled, singled, scored twice, and stole a base in the win. Brayden Karmazinuk singled, scored, knocked in a run, and stole two bases.

Saturday, the day got off to a rough start with an 8-2 loss to the host Saskatoon Cubs. Mackay singled and walked three times and then stole three bases and scored a run in the loss. Schultz and Kade Behm had the RBI’s when they brought Mackay and Hudec around to score.

The Tribe turned things around in game two with a 15-2 win in five innings. Mitchell Peterson earned the win, allowing just four hits and one run over four innings.

Mackay finished threefor-three with three runs scored, a walk, and one RBI. Reid Fritzke was all over the base paths with two hits and a walk and scored three runs from the leadoff spot. Moen tripled and singled during a three-RBI effort. Schultz, Darby Crozier, and Hudec each scored twice in the mercy rule win.

The Indians also split Sunday’s twin bill, losing the opener and winning the second game once again.

They opened the day with an 8-3 loss to the Saskatoon D-Backs. Schultz, Mackay and Crozier all had two-hit games at the plate. Hudec had two RBI’s and Schultz had the other.

They bounced back with a 7-4 win Sunday evening. Mackay allowed 12 hits but limited Saskatoon to four runs, only three of which were earned. He struck out three and walked one over seven innings. He also finished two-for-four at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI.

Schultz was two-forthree with three RBI and a run scored. Moen tripled and brought home two runs as well.

The win left the Indians record at 13-16 on the campaign.

They will now prepare to host the 2013 Western Canadian Championsh­ips on August 16-18.
