It was a quiet weekend for Southwest cowboys at the Gilbert Plains Rodeo on July 13-14.

Only three Southwest cowboys were able to win money in 10 events at the Canadian Cowboys’ Association event in Gilbert Plains.

Cabri’s Tyson Garrett won Novice Bareback when he scored a 64 to beat out two other cowboys for $158.

Tie Down Roping was the only other event where the Southwest had any success. Lucky Lake’s Tyler Getz placed second out of 23 cowboys in 8.7 seconds for $449. Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer placed fourth in 9.9 seconds to pocket $262.

Davidson’s Scott Sigfusson won Tie Down Roping in 8.5 seconds. He won a second event when he topped Steer Wrestling in 5.9 seconds.

Beausejour’s Kirk Thompson won Saddle Bronc with a 72-point ride on High Artic. Didsbury’s Carl Green won Bull Riding with 79 points on Booster Seat. Virden’s Erin Hagan led Ladies Barrel Racing in 15.12 seconds.
