Shau­navon se­niors push­ing to re­tain lo­cal STC ser­vice

To the ed­i­tor: The Gov­ern­ment of Saskatchew­an has de­clared Se­niors’ Week in Saskatchew­an from Sept. 30 to Oct. 6, 2013.

We are pleased to ac­cept this recog­ni­tion and feel it is an ap­pro­pri­ate time to take up our cause, once again, to fight for the re­ten­tion of the STC Ser­vice be­tween Eas­tendSwift Cur­rent and Eas­tendMoss­bank.

Ear­lier this year, we were told ser­vice would be dis­con­tin­ued as of May 18. Then, we were ad­vised that this would be ex­tended to Dec. 31, 2013.

By elim­i­nat­ing this ser­vice, we are told there would be an an­nual sav­ings of $140,000. We feel this is a small sav­ings in light of the ben­e­fit this ser­vice pro­vides. We are at­tempt­ing to have a meet­ing with Hon­ourable Don McMor­ris, Min­is­ter Re­spon­si­ble for STC, within a few weeks.

Mean­time, we are ask­ing for pub­lic sup­port.
