Frauds cir­cu­lat­ing in South­west

RCMP in the South­west are ad­vis­ing the pub­lic of a se­ries of scams which are cur­rently cir­cu­lat­ing in the re­gion.

The Swift Cur­rent Ru­ral RCMP are ad­vis­ing a num­ber of in­di­vid­u­als have been con­tacted as part of a phone scam.

In­di­vid­u­als are con­tact­ing lo­cal res­i­dents pre­tend­ing to be rel­a­tives. As part of the scam the per­son states they are be­ing held by po­lice and fac­ing crim­i­nal charges. In or­der to help them out, they are ask­ing that a sum of money be sent by Western Union to en­sure their re­lease. If you are con­tacted re­gard­ing this scam, do not send any funds and con­tact your near­est RCMP.

The Shau­navon RCMP are also re­mind­ing South­west res­i­dents of a se­ries of phone/in­ter­net scams that are presently oc­cur­ring in Shau­navon and sur­round­ing ar­eas.
