Fifteen money winners at Val Marie rodeo

Southwest competitor­s earned valuable money in the Canadian Cowboys’ Associatio­n standings at a recent rodeo close to home as the push for CCA Finals’ spots continues.

The CCA made a stop in the Southwest on September 20- 21 for the Val Marie 49th Annual Indoor Bob Larson Memorial Rodeo.

Three Southwest cowboys were among the event leaders in Val Marie but 15 were able to bring back money from the indoor rodeo.

Cabri’s Tyson Garrett tied for top spot in Novice Bareback with a 68-point ride for $118.

Val Marie’s Colt Kornfeld tied for top spot at home in Junior Steer Riding with a 72- point ride for $175.

Lancer’s Chad Hartman was right there with him with a 72- point ride as well for $ 175. Hazenmore’s Chanse Cutler tied for fourth with 71 points for $29.

Maple Creek’s Mike Gordon placed second in Saddle Bronc after scoring 74 points on New Idea for $315. Rhett Fitzpatric­k won the event with 77 points on Roll Call.

Two Southwest cowgirls were among the leaders in Ladies Barrel Racing, which was won by Lestock’s Laramie Slade in 11.73 seconds. Maple Creek’s Kerry Maynes was second in 11.78 seconds for $ 544. Kristy Gilchrist, also riding out of Maple Creek, finished fourth in 11.98 seconds for $317.

Team Roping featured Southwest cowboys on four of the six moneyearni­ng duos. Val Marie’s Mark and Tyler Holbrook were third in 6.5 seconds for $ 678. Shamrock’s Kevin Turner worked with Tyler Paicu ( Avonlea) to place fourth in 6.5 seconds for $551.

Val Marie’s Jeremy Buhler teamed up with Kasper Roy (Mossleigh) to place fifth in 6.9 seconds for $354.

Waldeck’s Scott and Tuftin McLeod rounded out the money winners in sixth in 10.9 seconds for $192.

Kyle and Brady Chappel won the event in 5.9 seconds.

Piapot’s Brady Bertram was third in Bareback in Val Marie.

He scored 70 points on Evening News to claim $151.

Dustan McPhee won the event with a 78-point ride on City Lights.

Riley Hayes was one of the fastest cowboys in Steer Wrestling at his hometown rodeo.

He finished tied for fourth in 5.4 seconds for $67.

Mankota’s Shawn Williamson placed sixth in Tie Down Roping in his backyard in 10.7 seconds for $83.

Scott Sig fusson won the event in 9.2 seconds.

Bull Riding was the only event in Val Marie that Southwest cowboys were shut out of.

Hayter’s Jordan Arbuthnott won the event with 84 points on Legend.

The CCA calendar continues this weekend with the Bowsman Bull- ARama in Bowsman, MB on Saturday.
