Chi­nook School Di­vi­sion Sports Re­port


The Swift Cur­rent Ar­dens soc­cer team came back from a 1-0 deficit at half time, to beat Moose Jaw Cen­tral 3-1 win­ning their fifth con­sec­u­tive MJHSSA League Cham­pi­onship. Brooke Vallee, San­tana Gowan, and Kelsey Ther­rien each scored a goal with Kelsey also adding two as­sists. Con­grat­u­la­tions girls on a well played sea­son.

The Ar­dens then moved on to SHSAA play­offs when they trav­elled to Moose Jaw on Oct. 19 to play in re­gion­als. The Ar­dens’ first game was against Bal­go­nie on Satur­day morn­ing where they walked away with a 90 vic­tory. Goal scor­ers in­cluded Sch­wan (3), Vallee (3), Gowan (1), Chase (1), and Er­land­son (1). This put the Ar­dens in the re­gional fi­nal against Wey­burn. The Ar­dens re­peated as re­gional cham­pi­ons by de­feat­ing the Ea­gles 6-1. The Ar­dens will now ad­vance to the pro­vin­cial 3A soc­cer cham­pi­onships in Regina on Oct. 25/26.

The Swift Cur­rent Colts hosted boys’ 3A re­gional soc­cer on Oct 18/19. The Colts won their first game against Wey­burn by a score of 4-0. Scor­ing for the Colts was Sad­den (2), Haubrich (1) and D. Tor­res (1).

The Colts then played in an ex­cit­ing fi­nal against Bal­go­nie Greenall Griffins. Both teams scored a goal in the first half (Colts’ goal by Haubrich) and it stayed that way for the sec­ond half as well as the over­time pe­riod. The game went to a shoot out with Bal­go­nie win­ning 4-3 giv­ing them the vic­tory. Both teams will now ad­vance to provin­cials in Saskatoon on Oct. 25/26.

Herbert girls also en­tered soc­cer this year. In the 1A clas­si­fi­ca­tion, the girls play 7 vs 7 play­ers. The Lau- rels trav­elled to Out­look for their re­gional on Oct. 19. Herbert walked away with two vic­to­ries. They beat LCBI 2-1 and then de­feated Out­look 3-2 to cap­ture the re­gional ti­tle!! The Laurels will now travel to Lake Lenore for 1A girls’ provin­cials on Oct. 25/26.

The se­nior vol­ley­ball leagues head into their last week of reg­u­lar play. The fi­nal host lo­ca­tions on Oct. 22 for the girls are Herbert, Eas­t­end and Fron­tier. The fi­nal host lo­ca­tions on Oct. 23 for the boys are Fron­tier and Swift Cur­rent.

The top four in the girls’ league af­ter week five are 1st – Shau­navon. 2nd – Herbert. 3rd – Ha­zlet. 4th – Fron­tier. Shau­navon has ac­cu­mu­lated enough points to guar­an­tee they will host the league cham­pi­onships on Oct 29.

In boys’ play af­ter week 5, 1st place is cur­rently Van­guard. We have a three-way tie for 2nd – Fron­tier, Shau­navon and Swift Cur­rent Jr Colts. The fi­nal host for our boys’ league cham­pi­onship on Oct. 30 is still to be de­ter­mined.

Our ju­nior vol­ley­ball teams will also be start­ing play­offs. The fol­low­ing is a list of the var­i­ous hosts of our sub­sec­tion & sec­tion play­offs: Wed, Oct 30: Rolling Hills A boys sub­sec­tion play­off at Herbert. Teams in­volved: Herbert, Waldeck, O. M. Ir­win. One team will ad­vance to the dis­trict cham­pi­onship.

Rolling Hills B girls sub­sec­tion play­off at Pon­teix. Teams in­volved: Pon­teix, Wy­mark, Van­guard, Swift Cur­rent Comp gr 9, Hodgeville. One team will ad­vance to the dis­trict cham­pi­onship.
