Silhouettes off to HOOPLA after winning regionals
March 7 & 8 saw eight of our senior basketball teams on the road for SHSAA regional playoffs.
We hosted 2A girls in Shaunavon where the Silhouettes were declared regional champions!
Congrats and good luck to the girls and their coaches Michelle Hansen and Jaelee Guenther as they are now off to HOOPLA in Regina on March 14 & 15!
The girls opened the tournament on Friday with a 9335 win over Osler VCA.
This put them in the final against Birch Hill Marauders on Saturday.
It was a rematch of last year’s regional but this time the Silhouettes won by a score of 89-43.
In 1A action, the Herbert boys travelled to Coronach. In the first match, they lost an extremely close game to Lipton 90-86.
In the consolation on Saturday, the Laurels cruised to a 92-74 win over Gladmar.
The Herbert girls travelled to Middle Lake.
They easily won their first game against Luseland 62-15 but came up short in the final against the strong team from Middle Lake. The final score was 64-33.
In 3A boys’ action, Shaunavon Shadows and Maple Creek Rebels both lost their first games.
In Regina, Shaunavon dropped their match to Saskatoon Christian 87-66. Maple Creek travelled to Indian Head and dropped their first game to the home team 90-53.
Both teams rebounded Saturday for wins in the consolation final.
Shaunavon defeated Dalmeny 85-50 while Maple Creek beat Unity 85-59.
The Maple Creek girls also took part in 3A girls action at Indian Head. They lost their first game to the host team, Indian Head, 71-34. On Saturday, they lost in the consolation final to Esterhazy 43-33.
In 4A, action both the Swift Current Colts and Ardens were on the road.
The Ardens travelled to Lumsden where they won their first match over Estevan 65-56 but lost in the final to the hosts 69-31.
The Colts were at Moose Jaw.
They too started on a winning note with a victory over Meadow Lake 72-54.
The final saw the host Moose Jaw Peacock defeat the Colts 81-60.
The Swift Current wrestling team travelled to provincials with 10 wrestlers on March 7 & 8.
Greg Rousseau had a fourth place finish in the 59 kg category.
Finishing fifth was Bede Marchand in the girls 53 kg category and Rhett Grose in the 73 kg boys category. Chance Poh had a sixth place finish in 59 kg boys.
