16U SunDogs make improvemen­ts in Regina

The 16U Girls Swift Current Junior SunDogs volleyball team was on the road over the weekend and placed third, a big improvemen­t from their previous tournament outing.

The 16U SunDogs, coached by Morgan and Chris Montgomery, were in Regina for a tournament hosted by QCVC Regina.

The SunDogs won five of their six matches and earned four of those wins in three sets. They opened the tournament with a three-set win over the Moose Jaw Element Panthers (10-25, 25-18, 1513) and followed up with another three-set win over QCVC Royal 15U (25-23, 2225, 15-13). They moved to 30 with a win over Huskie Volleyball (25-22, 25-19) and then defeated the Yorkton Blitz (25-19, 19-25, 15-13). Their first loss came to the Winnipeg Dynamo 15U (2325, 11-25) before they rebounded to beat the Rouleau Panthers in three sets (24-26, 25-22, 15-10) to win bronze.

The 16U team was in Saskatoon for a Sask Cup tournament earlier this sea- son and placed 11th overall, third in Tier 2, with five wins and two losses. The 16U SunDogs, also coached by Morgan and Chris Montgomery, picked up wins over the Saskatoon Attack (25-14, 2624), Nipawin Team Clark (2521, 25-10), Regina QCVC Black (25-9, 25-21), the Martensvil­le Synergy (25-12, 25-17), and Nipawin Team Clark (25-19, 25-23). They suffered losses to the Manitoba Junior Bisons (19-25, 2520, 11-15) and the Saskatoon JCVC Big Red (14-25, 25-17, 9-15).
