Swift Current fencers collect medals at provincial tournament
The Swift Current Fencing Club took part in the Sask Open on March 8 and 9 in Regina. The yearly tournament stands as the Provincial Championships for fencing in the Province, and Swift Current fencing students had an incredible tournament.
In the U13 Foil Category, Courtlyn Hope took home the Provincial Championship, followed closely by Cort Cornelson and Alex Menun for a Swift Current sweep. Hope also took home a Bronze medal fencing above her age division in the Women’s Division, sharing the podium with fellow Swift Current teammate Karin Roen, who also took home a Bronze in the division.
Sound results that were led by example in Coach Lisa Hagen who medaled in three divisions, taking Gold in the Masters division in Foil, a Silver medal in Senior Women’s Foil, and a Bronze in Senior Women’s Epee.
“I’m very proud of all my fencers,” says Hagen. “They practice hard and it shows every time they step onto the piste.”
