Red hot concerts will highlight Centennial celebratio­ns at Frontier Days

The grandstand entertainm­ent at Frontier Days is sure to attract capacity audiences with a trio of concert headliners announced earlier this week.

The musical bar was raised this year as the concerts are among the event lineup scheduled during Swift Current’s Centennial Homecoming weekend on June 28 and 29.

The musical bar will be set high right from the opening concert with the multiple award winning Emerson Drive kicking things off. As a top Canadian country act for over a decade, Emerson Drive won the 2002, 2003 and 2007 Canadian Country Music Award as Group or Duo of the Year; and the were saluted as the CCMA’s Chevy Truck Rising Star Award in 2002. They are also four time Juno Award nominees for their recordings (2003),

(2007), (2010) and (2013).

They toured with Shania Twain at the height of her popularity, and last year they had a successful tour with fellow Canadian Country stars Doc Walker.

Shaunavon’s own Hunter Brothers will kick off the musical celebratio­n on June 26 when J.J. Dusty, Luke, Brock and Ty take to the stage to deliver their gospel rock sound. The Hunter Brothers released their first full length album in 2012 as a follow up to their debut five song EP

in 2010. The music takes a back seat on June 27 when the Canadian Cowboys Associatio­n holds their only evening rodeo performanc­e of Frontier Days.

Country music fans can use the time off to prepare for what is guaranteed to be a wild night of music when Big & Rich headline the June 28 concert.

Saturday’s musical party kicks off with an opening set by the Nashville based Black Jack Billy. This party rocking country act is quickly building a following after the release of their Debut five song EP

Country rockers Big & Rich are way more than a one trick pony after their in-

hit Since bursting onto the scene with their debut in 2004, which included Save A Horse, the Country music duo of Big Kenny and John Rich have enjoyed success as a duo and pursuing solo careers.

While Big & Rich had a short five year hiatus before releasing in 2012, they are once again going just as strong as ever. They have just released their newest single

and are working towards releasing a fifth studio album later this year.

The Big & Rich Party Like Cowboys concert features Cowboy Troy. Also not a stranger to the country party music scene, Cowboy Troy’s latest album

A pair of acts that are Canadian classic rock royalty wrap up the three concert series on June 29.

Nick Gilder and Sweeney Todd have been busy on the festival circuit over the past few years sharing their instantly recognizab­le platinum hits that were a soundtrack of the last 70s and early 80s.

Sweeney Todd, with Gilder handling lead vocals, had the best selling Canadian single in 1977 with the Canadian rock anthem

with the band also nominated in the Juno category of Most Promising Group of the Year.

Gilder had a number of highlights during a subsequent solo career, releasing the best selling Canadian single of 1979 with

and winning the 1979 Juno for Most Promising Male Vocalist of the Year.

Gilder boasted the hit from his second release and 1978 album He also enjoyed a successful songwritin­g career, penning hits for ( Rated X) and ( The Warrior).

Kenny Shields and Streethear­t are rock and roll prairie boys who boast six gold albums and four platinum albums.

The Swift Current Ag & Ex will be offering a Frontier Days Platinum Package which includes gate admission for all four days; admission to all three concerts; plus admission to all the Rodeos (Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday afternoons). This package will be available at a special 76th Frontier Days and Swift Current Centennial Anniversar­y price of $100. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m., April 12th at the Stockade Building, Kinetic Park during the Poultry and Exotic Animal Sale. (Regular price after April 12th will be $125). This promotion must be bought in person and only 1,000 tickets will be sold at this special discounted price. If you attended all four days, the total cost would be $155.
