Shaunavon launches Relay for Life fight against cancer
Event will be held overnight May 30
The Shaunavon Relay For Life 2014 committee officially launched their Relay For Life during a kick off event on March 26.
A come and go celebration was hosted in the Grand Coteau Centre, with chili on a bun served throughout the two hour long Relay for Life launch. All proceeds from the kick off will support the Shaunavon Relay For Life and the Canadian Cancer Society.
In 2013, a total of 19 Relay For Life events were held across Saskatchewan with over 75,000 participants helping raise over $2 million.
These life-saving funds have helped the Canadian Cancer Society lead cancer research to better prevent cancer, influence public policy for quality cancer care everywhere in Canada, focus support programs towards the crucial needs of patients and caregivers, and engage more Canadians in the fight against cancer.
On Friday, May 30, at 7 p. m., teams of six to 15 people will gather together at Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre for an unforgettable overnight journey.
The participants who attend will be joining a global movement that brings together more than 200,000 people throughout Canada each year.
This inspiring event involves people who participate in a 12- hour, overnight, non- competitive relay.
It’s a night to celebrate cancer survivors, honour and remember loved ones, and a way for each of us to fight back against cancer.
“Let’s make this Relay a Relay to remember,” said Kathy Towle, who is cochairing this year’s relay with Helen Fauchon.
“Together, we can find a cure!”
