SCMF represente­d well in San Antonio

Three South Saskatchew­an Selects football teams ( 12- andunder, 13- and- under and 16- and- under) competed at the Second Annual Internatio­nal Pigskin Classic tournament in San Antonio, Tex., on the weekend of February 2123, 2014.

The 12- and- under squad beat the Corpus Christi Crush 20- 12 in a third-place game.

The south Saskatchew­an team opened with a 24- 18 win over Corpus Christi, then lost its second game 28-2 to the Abilene Elite. Swift Current Minor Football was represente­d by Taye Sam.

The 13- and- under team was defeated 32- 18 by the Alamo City Red Raiders in its final.

The Saskatchew­an squad had lost its opener 26- 0 to Alamo City, but won its second game 22-6 over the Odessa Monsters to advance to the final.

Swift Current Minor Football was represente­d by Josh Keller.

Saskatchew­an’s 16and-under squad was defeated 14-6 by Alamo City in its final.

The team beat Mexico 41- 13 in its opener and dropped its second game 26-10 to the Red Raiders. Swift Current Minor Football was represente­d by Zac Nickel.

These results show that football is alive and well in Saskatchew­an. Swift Current Minor Football (SCMF) strives to see more alumni representi­ng our community at this level of athletics.

The goal of SCMF is to provide a safe and positive environmen­t to expose youth in our communitie­s to another option of team athletics.

The organizati­on strives to move forward in developing youth in an affordable and entertaini­ng sport that Saskatchew­an loves.
