First ever SPCA Radiothon generates $21,798

-

The first ever Give Me Shelter Radiothon in support of the Swift Current SPCA raised an impressive $ 21,798 in support of keeping the Swift Current SPCA Animal Shelter open.

“We’re all smiles right now,” Swift Current SPCA Board Member Chris Martens said after the grand total was announced. “We can’t say thank you enough for the support that we’ve gotten.”

“Coming in we didn’t know what to expect. We had no preconceived notion of what should we raise, what are we going to raise. We just wanted to see what kind of support we could get within the community. I don’t think there’s a person here that isn’t satisfied.

“Its been incredible. We’ve been more than happy. The donations have just been coming in. And it really shows that the community wants us here and knows we’re in need and they know the positive things that the SPCA does within the community.”

The Swift Current SPCA is in the midst of their $14 in 2014 fundraising campaign to address a funding shortfall at the SPCA Animal Shelter, and they have been encourag- ing donations where every dollar helps go a long way.

“We’ve had a few people that have come in and made $5 donations. It doesn’t matter if it’s a $ 5 donation or a $50 donation or more. Every little bit makes a different to us and makes a difference in our cats or our dogs lives.”

As volunteer board members facing a large operational shortfall, they did not know if it would even be possible to move forward.

“It has been a complete turnout from what it has been as far as support goes. Everyone is really showing their true spirt and how much they really care about the SPCA and the animals. It’s hard to have words how much we appreciate all the support in keeping the Shelter doors open.”

Martens also tipped his hat to the Radiothon hosts for helping them achieve a major fundraising milestone of over $20,000.

“It’s a huge event to have a Radiothon from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m., and the fact that the Eagle 94.1 was willing to give us the time and make sure that we could make this happen, we can’t thank them enough. They’ve been unbelievably supportive for us.”
