Teams still needed for United Way Golf Classic

-

Organizers of the 2014 United Way Golf Classic are hoping that Friday the 13th is a lucky day, with a Million Dollar Hole in One one of the featured attractions of the June 13 tournament at the Elmwood Golf and Country Club.

In fact, there are three main prizes up for grabs as incentives to participate, with a Million Dollar Hole in One sponsored by Living Sky Casino, Knight Auto Group is sponsoring a Hole in One for a vehicle, and RBC is sponsoring a $10,000 Hole In One.

“That’s really the major piece of this tournament. It’s the only one in Southwest Saskatchewan that there is this opportunity,” United Way Golf Classic Chairman Scott Cassidy said while promoting the tournament.

“We’re excited to put in on again for the second year in a row,” Cassidy said.

“It really is a big money contributor to the United Way and the 12 agencies they support.

“It’s a local cause and people can really get behind it.”

Living Sky Casino’s Lindsay Gerbrandt admitted their sponsorship of the Million Dollar Hole in One is a way they can give back to the community.

“It fits in really well for us. It’s a chance for everyone to get out on the golf course, have some fun, have a good day, and then of course that chance for a million dollars.

“In addition to that it’s a good chance for us to give back to the community. In supporting the United Way we’re very aware that it helps all their member agencies, and that’s a win-win as far as we’re concerned.”

Swift Current United Way Executive Director Stacey Schwartz highlighted that they already have 72 registered golfers which is on pace to surpass last year’s field of 88 golfers who raised just over $15,000.

“We’re sitting pretty good, but we’re hoping to have all 144 spots filled,” she admitted.

“We have some great prizes lined up, and lots of perks.”

And while there are some big prizes possible, the event is also about having fun.

“Everybody’s out just to have fun.

“Whether you’re a pro or its your first time golfing, anybody can come and participate,” Schwartz said.

Interested golfers or teams are invited to call the Swift Current United Way office at 306- 7784828 or register online at swiftcurrentunitedway.ca
