Drivers get cheeky in support of cancer fundraiser

-

It is rare when an intermission promotion overshadows the edge-of-your-seat excitement at the Speedy Creek Raceway, but then again, the drivers and pit crews do not usually parade around in pink speedos.

In the midst of the Speedy Creek Racing Association’s second race of the 2014 season on Friday over 30 participants were on the track for the first Annual Pink Speedo Race/Race For Boobies in support of fundraising for the Canadian Breast Cancer Society. The group ran in a water balloon relay race, but more importantly showed their commitment to helping raise funds in support of breast cancer research. Proceeds from the evening’s 50/50 draw were donated to the cause, and spectators had a chance to bid on pink racing body panels featured on the Reasons 2 Race Davidson Racing stock car.

But the evening was still about the race for the check- ered flag in four different race divisions.

Rene Panasiuk completed a sweep of the Truck races, winning both heats and claiming the Feature.

In Hobby Stock action, Destiny Klym drove the #5 car to wins in both qualifying heats, but Tyson Crowe and his #11 car won the Feature Race.

There were four different winners during five Street- Stock races. Terry Davidson won Heat 1A and 2A, with Mike Dionne winning Heat 1B and Daryl Kehler topping the field in Heat 2B. In the Street Feature, Stephan Klym took the checkered flag.

The cars in the Modifieds had trouble with the dry track conditions caused by back to back 30 Celsius days, but Bob Heffer roared to wins in the Feature race and Heat #1, while Jason Duclos was fastest in Heat #2. Next up at the Speedy Creek Raceway will be Kid’s Day on June 7 in celebration of Father’s Day, with action scheduled in trucks, hobbies, streets and modifieds.
