Herbert hosts successful Walk For Life

- SUBMITTED

On Sunday May 25th, approximately 100 people of Herbert and area, in conjunction with Swift Current and District Pro Life, hosted a Walk For Life and Bar-B-Q to celebrate the gift of life and to bring awareness of the sanctity of all human life: born and unborn.

Along with their parents, the many young children particularly enjoyed the walk and the Bouncy Castle.

Muriel Nielsen, President of Swift Current Pro Life, spoke on the history of abortion in Canada.

In the Supreme Court/Morgentaler decision, the Justices said that “the state has a legitimate interest in protecting the unborn”.

Of the seven judges in that case, none of the judges held the position of a constitutional right to abortion on demand.

The court fully understood that fetal rights needed to be protected, and they certainly could not have anticipated the legal vacuum we have seen for the past 25 years.

Kelita Routledge, chairperson for the walk, said that pro lifers have been the silent majority for far too long. Getting involved and having your voice heard is easier than you would think.

Two ways to get involved is writing letters to your elected representatives regarding pro life issues and joining your local pro life group. Staying informed is very important she said.

Let’s get our message out. ...it’s a much different message than society is currently hearing and it is one of forgiveness and grace.

The 24 pro life groups in Saskatchewan are deeply distressed that Saskatchewan government’s Health Legislation does not require parental consent for minors to abort their unborn baby, but notes that parental consent is required for a minor getting a tattoo or for tanning.
