Swift Current’s Relay For Life runs Saturday
The Canadian Cancer Society is counting down the days to Swift Current’s Relay For Life fundraiser tak- ing place on June 7 at Riverside Park.
Each year, participants from across Canada come together to celebrate the lives of those who have overcome cancer, remember loved ones lost and empower individuals and communities to fight back against the disease.
The Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life is a 12- hour non-competitive event that involves teams of up to 15 participants who take turns walking or running around a track. The event opens at 7 p.m. with a Survivors’ Victory Lap, where cancer survivors kick off the event by walking an inspirational first lap. Luminaries are lit during a moving ceremony at dusk, approximately 10:30 p.m. Their light pays tribute to loved ones and provides motivation and encouragement to participants all night long. Luminaries can be purchased in memory of loved ones lost and in honour of the cancer survivors and those still battling the disease. Purchasers choose their own special, meaningful message to have on the lu- minary bag. Luminaries will be for sale at the event as well in the MNP parking lot on June 6 between noon and 4 p.m. This year’s event will feature entertainment by Will Ardell, Glenna Switzer, Becky Neustater, Kurtis Pratt, The Midnight Roses and more. Entertainment will start after the Survivors’ Victory Lap.
