Impressive junior rodeo results in Herbert

The Saskatchew­an High School Rodeo Associatio­n returned to Herbert for three days of high school and junior high school rodeo last month. There were only six Southwest competitor­s in Junior High action but they posted strong results throughout all three days of the rodeo.

Shaunavon’s Paige Mizu had another strong weekend with eight top-five finishes, including two event wins. She won Breakaway on day one in only 4.8 seconds and then placed second in Goat Tying in 14.9 seconds and fourth in Poles in 27.388 seconds. On day two, Mizu was fifth in Barrels in 15.41 seconds, second in Breakaway in 18.1 seconds, and second in Poles in 22.761 seconds. She won Poles on day three in 22.52 seconds and was third in Goat Tying in 13.9 seconds.

Mankota’s Karlie Cowie had a solid weekend in Herbert with five top-10 results. She finished second on day one in Barrels in 15.296 seconds and third in Poles in 24.808 seconds. Cowie continued her success in Barrels on day two when she placed third in 15.139 seconds. She posted her fastest time in Barrels on day three when she finished second in 15.146 seconds and also placed sixth in Goat Tying in 17.4 seconds.

Hazlet’s Brooklyn Becker also produced three top-10 placings in Herbert. She finished 10th in Barrels on day two in 16.781 seconds, sixth in Poles on day two in 26.586 seconds and eighth in Poles on day three in 28.487 seconds.

Val Marie’s Colt Kornfeld produced eight top-five finishes, including one event win in Herbert. On day one Kornfeld finished fourth in Goat Tying in 16.5 seconds, second in Bull Riding with a 63-point ride, and fifth in Chute Dogging in 27.0 seconds. He won Bull Riding on day two with a 64-point ride and also was fourth in Goat Tying in 17.6 seconds and fourth in Chute Dogging in 19.0 seconds. Kornfeld continued his success on day three with a second-place finish in Bull Riding with a score of 54 and then finished fourth in Goat Tying in 18.4 seconds.

Kincaid’s Jud Colliness was also a fixture on the leaderboar­d in Herbert with six top-six placings. He opened his rodeo with a fifth-place finish in Goat Tying in 18.4 seconds on day one. He picked up steam on day two with a fifth-place showing in Chute Dogging in 20.0 seconds and an eighth-place showing in Goat Tying in 24.0 seconds. Colliness had his best day on day three with third place finishes in Goat Tying in 18.3 seconds and Bull Riding with a 53-point ride, before finishing fourth in Chute Dogging in 18.9 seconds.

Maple Creek’s Ty Skene had five top-10 finishes in Herbert. His opening day consisted of a fourth-place finish in Bull Riding with a 56-point ride and an eighthplac­e finish in Goat Tying in 25.8 seconds. Skene added a fifth-place finish in Goat Tying on day two in 18.4 seconds. Skene added a fifthplace finish in Chute Dogging in 21.6 seconds and a sixth-place finish in Goat Tying in 20.1 seconds on the final day of the rodeo.
