Swift Current Pride invites the Southwest to celebrate the LGBT Community

- SUBMITTED

After hosting last year’s inaugural Pride Celebration, the Lyric Theatre proudly announces Southwest Saskatchewan’s second annual Pride Night. This year aims to outdo 2013’s overwhelming attendance, as guest speakers and performers had presented to a near-capacity audience. The 2014 Pride Night, presented by Boston Pizza, celebrates at the Lyric Theatre on June 13 at 7 p.m.

This year’s theme, “Allies for Pride,” encourages residents of Southwest Saskatchewan – both straight and queer alike – not only to cel- ebrate gender and sexual diversity within our community, but also to strengthen the connections between such diversities in order to build a stronger, more kind community at large. Swift Current Pride strives to bring together the many supporters of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) family, so that they may also show their pride as allies.

In line with this year’s theme, Swift Current Pride has invited Don Cochrane to speak at the event. Cochrane has organized, for the past 17 years, University of Saskatchewan’s “Breaking the Silence” conference, which has been instrumental in raising public awareness of sexual minority issues in Saskatchewan. All are welcome to attend and stay for a lively program of entertainment following the keynote address. Swift Current Pride is honoured by the outpouring of community support so far this year, including that of Presenting Sponsor Boston Pizza. Since 1999, Boston Pizza has been an outspoken advocate for community support throughout Swift Current and area.

This year’s event is sure to be bigger, louder, and prouder than last, and Swift Current Pride invites everyone to come out as Allies for Pride in June 2014.
