Ten medals for SWAC track and field athletes

The Southwest was well represente­d at the SHSAA Provincial Track and Field Championsh­ips in Moose Jaw on Friday and Saturday with 99 athletes in action.

Southwest athletes were able to bring home a total of 10 medals from the Provincial Championsh­ips, including double medal performanc­es from Swift Current’s Jade Addai and Marcus Kouri.

Addai came up with the only gold medal for the Southwest when she won the Junior Girls 100 Metre Dash after posting the fastest time in the preliminar­ies, semi-finals, and finals. Addai won the gold medal in the final in 13.06 seconds, edging Legacy Christian’s Ayomikun Olaloku by 2-100ths of a second.

Addai added a silver medal in the 200 Metre Dash when she finished in 27.02 seconds, behind only Saskatoon’s Sara Murray, who finished in 26.28 seconds.

Kouri won both of his silver medals in the Senior Boys jumping events. He won silver in Long Jump with a top jump of 6.29 metres.

Outlook LCBI’s Kayden Johnson won the event with a 6.61-metre effort. heave, second only to Kayden Johnson’s 14.39-metre effort.

The Southwest’s fifth and final silver medal came from the Midget Boys 4x100 metre relay team after they finished in 47.84 seconds, just 1.22 seconds behind West Central.

Swift Current’s Jordan Wittman showed off his versatilit­y with a bronze medal finish in the Boys Open Quad.

He placed second in Long Jump (5.81m), third in the 800 Metre Run (2:16.73), 10th in Shot Put (10.26m), and 12th in the 100 Metre Dash (12.39 seconds) to finish with 2,267 points behind Meadow Lake’s Aaron Varjassy and Regina’s Simon Oulette.

Shaunavon’s Jordan Voll used a 35.58-metre effort to win bronze in Midget Boys Discus as well.

Regina’s Marshall Neuls won the event with a 40.21metre effort and Kelvington’s Zack Spray won silver with a 35.77-metre throw.

Eastend’s Lane Richardson travelled almost 40 feet to win bronze in Junior Boys Triple Jump. He was one of only three athletes to break the 12-metre mark when he reached 12.04 metres with his best effort to finish behind Middle Lake’s Kyle Wehage and Oxbow’s Dylan Haygarth.

The South West 4x100 Midget Girls relay team rounded out the medal winners when they won bronze in 53.65 seconds behind Saskatoon and Central Valley.

The Swift Current Comp. finished fifth amongst 4A schools in the team rankings at the meet with 272 points. Shaunavon also finished fifth amongst 2A schools with 80 points. The South West finished 10th out of 14 entries in the District Rankings with 697 points. Saskatoon won the District title with 1,807 points, almost 600 points ahead of North Central, and was also named the Most Improved District.
