Familiar names atop Unity CCA rodeo

Some familiar Southwest rodeo competitor­s were among the money winners at a Canadian Cowboys’ Associatio­n stop in Unity. Nine Southwest cowboys and two cowgirls won money at Unity Western Days, including two event winners.

Swift Current’s Linden Woods earned 80 points on Border Town to win Bareback and $547 in Unity. Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram was right behind him in second with 79 points on 42 Below for $410. Tompkins’ Jason Hofer tied for fourth with 75 points on Big Shot for $68.

Brady Resch grabbed the other win for the Southwest in Unity. The Maple Creek cowboy topped Junior Steer Riding with a 75-point score to earn $189. Lancer’s Cole Hartman was right behind in second spot with 70 points for $141.

Waldeck’s Tuftin McLeod worked with Moose Jaw’s Jim-Bob Gommersall to place second in Team Roping in 6.3 seconds for $1,624. Mark Ellis (Sonningdal­e) and Tim Schnitzler (Vanscoy) won the event in 6.1 seconds.

Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer just missed a win when he placed second in Tie Down Roping in 9.6 seconds for $656. Waldeck’s Tuftin McLeod tied for sixth in Tie Down in 12.0 seconds for $68.

Maple Creek’s Hallie Anderson was also second in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 18.28 seconds for $162.

She was followed closely by Maple Creek’s Mardi Yarshenko in 18.29 seconds in third spot for $162. Donalda’s Shaylee Mcmann won the event in 17.75 seconds.

Piapot’s Casey Bertram tied for fourth in Saddle Bronc with a 75-point ride on Colt 45 for $168.

Southwest rodeo fans will be able to catch the CCA rodeo tour at Frontier Days in Swift Current on June 27-29.
