Surge basketball teams wrap up second season
A pair of Swift Current Surge basketball teams concluded their seasons in Alberta over the weekend.
The U17 Jaydee Agtech Surge girls basketball team attended the eight-team Junior Horns Tournament at the University of Lethbridge and finished third.
On Friday, they beat Calgary Vision Basketball Academy (Harrison) 49-41. On Saturday morning the Surge fell to a very good Junior Horns team 55-39. The U17 Surge played their best game in the third place game beating Calgary Vision Basketball Academy (Hogan) 56-47. The U15 Monsanto Bio Ag Surge basketball team also wrapped up their season this weekend in the University of Lethbridge Club tournament. The team battled to a 1-2 record playing three teams from Southern Alberta. Throughout the season the team played strong defense, passed the ball well and consistently worked hard.
This past weekend the team was led in scoring by Chloe Smith, Kyla Bolton and Katie Braun.
This is the second year that Girls Minor Basketball has been active in Swift Current and the association continues to develop and grow.
This summer Surge Minor Basketball will be hosting its inaugural Summer Basket Ball camp August 11-15. The camp will be held at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School and is open to boys and girls in grades 5-12 who are interested in improving their basketball skills.
