Surge bas­ket­ball teams wrap up sec­ond sea­son

A pair of Swift Cur­rent Surge bas­ket­ball teams con­cluded their sea­sons in Al­berta over the weekend.

The U17 Jaydee Agtech Surge girls bas­ket­ball team at­tended the eight-team Ju­nior Horns Tour­na­ment at the Univer­sity of Leth­bridge and fin­ished third.

On Fri­day, they beat Cal­gary Vi­sion Bas­ket­ball Academy (Har­ri­son) 49-41. On Satur­day morn­ing the Surge fell to a very good Ju­nior Horns team 55-39. The U17 Surge played their best game in the third place game beat­ing Cal­gary Vi­sion Bas­ket­ball Academy (Ho­gan) 56-47. The U15 Mon­santo Bio Ag Surge bas­ket­ball team also wrapped up their sea­son this weekend in the Univer­sity of Leth­bridge Club tour­na­ment. The team bat­tled to a 1-2 record play­ing three teams from South­ern Al­berta. Through­out the sea­son the team played strong de­fense, passed the ball well and con­sis­tently worked hard.

This past weekend the team was led in scor­ing by Chloe Smith, Kyla Bolton and Katie Braun.

This is the sec­ond year that Girls Mi­nor Bas­ket­ball has been ac­tive in Swift Cur­rent and the as­so­ci­a­tion continues to de­velop and grow.

This sum­mer Surge Mi­nor Bas­ket­ball will be host­ing its in­au­gu­ral Sum­mer Bas­ket Ball camp Au­gust 11-15. The camp will be held at the Swift Cur­rent Com­pre­hen­sive High School and is open to boys and girls in grades 5-12 who are in­ter­ested in im­prov­ing their bas­ket­ball skills.
